Our school is situated in a quiet neighborhood on the outskirts of Wodzislaw Slaski, in Silesia. Jedlownik, our district, is one of the oldest areas of the city. The school has 165 pupils and 18 teachers, who are highly qualified, experienced, and continue to develop. Classes are held from 8.00 to about 13.15. The school provides extra-curricular activities, such as equalization, athletic, artistic and historical classes and activities for gifted children. Students care about the environment. They feed birds, plant trees and segregate waste to recycle it. We also take part in several environmental actions. Most of our students come from families with rich mining tradition. Almost all children have a complete family, and live in multi-generational households with their grandparents. Since the parents are working, social and economic situation of most students’ families is good. The problem is that more and more children do not know how to learn independently and effectively, they lack the motivation to learn. Through small local projects, which are carried out with great success, engaging pupils, parents and grandparents, we are looking for new solutions to entice children. The school cooperate well with local institutions such as the town library, our parish, the museum, the center of rehabilitation for children, the association of Wodzislaw’s enthusiasts. We have been cultivating the history and traditions with an emphasis on regionalism and the history of our region. We have classes about the region and there is a school museum which students use. Our school is visited by veterans, graduates and former teachers. Students achieve success in historical and regional competitions. They also achieve high scores in tests at the end of school. Through the project we want to develop the motivation of students, to deepen their knowledge and to develop contacts with the local community. The project will enable teachers to exchange experiences and learn methods of teaching and working with children in other countries. The participants will explore the history of local places, both in their city as well as in the partner countries. We also want students to realize the importance of learning English and encourage them to learn it not only in school. We will be dealing with completion and submission of application form, involving students and teachers in the project, the project implementation, dissemination of project results and collaboration with partners.
